Yesterday marked the 22nd anniversary of the Michaels/Daly St. Peter's ALS Memorial Open. The sold out golf tournament featured over 250 golfers at Van Patten Golf Course in Clifton Park. All of the proceeds from the tournament and fundraising go directly to the St. Peter's ALS Center. For over 20 years, the golf tournament has been helping to keep the Center going, and raising funds so they can continue helping and caring for the local ALS Patients.
Many people in the packed house last night have been affected by the terrible disease that is ALS. Kelly Ragen, who recently lost her husband Andrew to ALS just over a month ago, gave an incredible speech after the tournament describing their battle with ALS. She described how her husband Andrew fought so hard for 6 1/2 years, and brought some of his own words to share that he wrote a few months ago. She also explained how much the St. Peter's ALS Center helped her and her family throughout their battle with the disease. Kelly's words touched every body in that room last night and really put the awful disease in perspective.
Last night, at the Check Presentation, the crowd anxioulsy awaited the final outcome, to see what we all contributed to. St. Peter's was proud to annouce that the tournament raised a NET figure of $124,000 for the St. Peter's ALS Center!!! Again, that is a NET figure! It was really special to see a room full of people cheer over the recrod setting number we raised.
So not only was it a great day of fundraising, we also had a great day of golf. The weather was beautiful, with a slight wind, that made for some difficult shot making. Congratulations to Donald Zee, ESQ on the low round of the day, 69! Also congrats to Heidi Harkins with the low round for the women, a 76!
